The river tow path

Following the tow path

Once exclusively reserved for commercial activity, the river Mayenne has become a unique tourist attraction, at once an ecologically responsible holiday and great fun.

The tow path is a moving reminder of the past, where boatmen and their horses pulled barges laden with wares between the towns of the region.

Today it the perfect haven for walkers, hikers and other nature lovers. It begins in Mayenne and covers over eighty miles (100 km) to the south of the département and beyond. Click here to find out more.

As fast or as slow as you like!
