A day out in Chailland

Explore the streets of Chailland and fall under the spell of this mysterious and characterful town.

From the Town Hall Square, stroll around the village of Chailland, with its rocky cliffs and a lush green valley, overlooked by the Rocher de la Vierge.

Rocher de la Vierge à Chailland

The neo-Gothic church with its outstanding stained glass seems to rise to the heavens. Behind it, a passage takes you to the Rocher de la Vierge where the view of the Ernée valley is simply magnificent. Along the way, discover the rose garden, the terraced gardens of the old rectory and the Gigoulais chapel.

Along the tourist route that leads to the old forge buildings, you'll pass several communal wash houses. Located near the bridge, the Moulin wash house still has its original winch system which was used to adjust the height of the floor to the river. A place brimful of history, discover also the Bourgeoiserie the Ouvroir and the Maison du Roquet.

Pont de Chailland, vallée de l'Ernée Next, why not have lunch in one of the village restaurants or enjoy picnic on the banks of the Ernee!

From May to September, the Gardens at Clivoy, a few minutes from the village, are open to visitors. Discover the vegetable garden, the remarkable trees and the orangery. Under the rocky ramparts, walk along the path that leads to the pond and fountain.

Don't forget the exhibition and sales room of painter Catherine de Pontbriand. Some of her wok is inspired by the flowers of the garden.

Idea for a walk: visit the village of Juvigné, with its Golden Flower trophy, and the museum of agricultural development, which is certified for reduced mobility.
